What is FLAVOR SWEET SUGAR FREE?

This is the sugar-free version of FLAVOR PLUS. It works the same way — pharmacists use it to prepare pleasant-tasting liquid medicines — but it uses non-caloric sweeteners (such as sucralose, sorbitol, or xylitol) instead of sugar.

It is used for:

Patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes

Patients on low-carbohydrate or ketogenic diets

Long-term paediatric therapy where protecting teeth from sugar is a priority

Patients with phenylketonuria (confirm aspartame-free formulation with pharmacist)

SAFE FOR DIABETIC PATIENTS

FLAVOR SWEET SUGAR FREE does not raise blood sugar. It is specifically designed for patients who cannot have regular sugar in their medicines.

Are there any side effects from the sweeteners?

Sorbitol and xylitol (if used) — can cause loose stools or stomach cramps in large amounts, particularly in young children. This is usually only a concern if a child is receiving several sorbitol-containing medicines at the same time.

If the formulation contains aspartame: avoid in phenylketonuria (PKU) — aspartame contains phenylalanine. Check the sweetener with your pharmacist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FLAVOR SWEET SUGAR FREE safe for my diabetic child?

Yes — it is formulated without sucrose or glucose-containing sugars and does not raise blood sugar. It uses non-caloric sweeteners. Always confirm with your pharmacist which specific sweetener is used.

Does 'sugar-free' mean no calories?

Mostly, yes — but some sweeteners like sorbitol contain a very small number of calories and can cause diarrhoea in large amounts. The amount in a typical medicine dose is tiny and clinically insignificant.

Why does my child's medicine need a flavouring base at all?

Many medicines are only available as adult tablets and are extremely bitter. Compounding pharmacists grind these medicines into powder and suspend them in a flavouring base like FLAVOR SWEET to create a palatable liquid for children. The flavouring does not affect how the medicine works — it only makes it taste better.
