What is this device for?

This thermometer measures body temperature by detecting heat from the forehead — without touching the skin. It gives a reading in 1–3 seconds. It is used to quickly and hygienically check for fever in adults, children, and babies.

How do I use it correctly?

Make sure the forehead is dry and clean — remove sweat, hair, or creams

Hold the thermometer 2–5 cm (1–2 inches) from the centre of the forehead

Point at the middle of the forehead, between the eyebrows and hairline

Press the button and keep steady until the reading appears

Take 2–3 readings for accuracy and record the highest, or take the average

WAIT BEFORE MEASURING

Do not measure temperature immediately after exercise, bathing, eating, or coming in from hot or cold weather. Wait at least 15–30 minutes for an accurate reading.

Important limitations to know

ℹ️ KNOW THE LIMITS

Forehead thermometers are very convenient but can read 0.3–0.5°C lower than your actual core temperature. If your child seems clearly unwell but the thermometer shows a normal reading, repeat the measurement or use a tympanic (ear) thermometer to confirm. Always trust how the child looks and behaves over a single temperature number.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is a forehead thermometer?

When used correctly, it is accurate to within ±0.2°C. However, forehead readings can be slightly lower than core temperature. For routine home monitoring, this accuracy is fine. For critical decisions (e.g., newborns or immunocompromised patients), confirm with a tympanic (ear) thermometer.

My child seems ill, but the reading is normal — should I be concerned?

Yes, possibly. Forehead thermometers can give false low readings, especially if the forehead is cool or damp. If your child seems unwell, repeat the measurement with the forehead dry, or use an ear thermometer to confirm. Your child's overall appearance, behaviour, and symptoms are always the most important signs.

How do I know when to replace the batteries?

A low battery indicator (usually a flashing symbol or 'LO' on the display) will appear. Replace batteries immediately — low batteries cause inaccurate readings. Use good-quality alkaline AAA batteries.
